2nd round 2024 to 2026 "Visual Diary-Journals Monthly Exchange Project": 16/1 + 17/1/26 Public Sharing

Human (Young Artists) : Human (Elderly with Dementia Challenge)

(conducted in Cantonese, Free Admission)

Background:

Under the theme of “Coexistence” the Co-learning Squad partnered with the “CFSC Mind-Delight” social work team to co-host a cross-sector co-learning program—spanning social services and artistic creation—called “Visual Diary-Journals Monthly Exchange Project” from summer 2024 to spring 2025.

Ten elderly living with dementia and ten young people passionate about creating were paired up as one-on-one “mystery pen pals.” Throughout the process, both sides kept going through cycles of forgetting and remembering, yet they devotedly nurtured their visual diary creations each month. After six months, we discover that, almost without realizing it, friendships have quietly sprouted, grown, and blossomed through their Monthly Journal creations.

Before the summer solstice in 2025, everyone finally met in person—beaming with joy, savouring the moment, and creating happy memories together…

Target Audience: (in Cantonese)

Individuals working in the social welfare, education, and creative sectors; we especially welcome those interested in cross-disciplinary and intergenerational exchange.

Sharing Event Details: (conducted in Cantonese)

The project’s chief curator, Sandy Chan, together with collaborative partner “CFSC Mind-Delight” participating social workers, and young artist participants, will share the findings and takeaways from the process. The event will also feature an on-site exhibition on the journals, and everyone is invited to join a small creative activity, with the aim of further fostering co-learning and exchange as well as opening a dialogue about “possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaboration”.

Each attendee will receive a “Learning Progress Sharing Publication” documenting the project, along with a set of “Blessings for Everyone” stickers created by both the youth and elders, to encourage everyday co-learning.
